BBD Hall of Fame
BBD HALL OF FAME 2024
The Bitgesell Burning Day (BBD) initiative was a resounding success. A total of 5,676 Bitgesell (BGL) coins were burned over two days (October 12 & 13, 2024), representing 0.027% of the total Bitgesell supply of 21 million. With these coins removed from circulation, the total number of BGL coins burned since April 2020 has reached 1,124,120 BGL. In other words, 5.35% of BGL coins have been permanently burned.
Alongside Bitgesell Burning Day was the BBD Hall of Fame. Simply put, anyone who burned a minimum of 1,000 BGL coins gained direct access to the Hall of Fame, an online space (Blogspot, Medium and Pinterest) where the "magnificent" burners of at least 1,000 Bitgesell coins will be permanently recognized. The Bitgesell community successfully convinced five members who collectively burned a total of 5,644.7 Bitgesell coins, accounting for about 99.44% of the total burns during the Bitgesell Burning Day event.
Participants received an honorable here mention and a majestic caricature based on the details they provided. We believe we faithfully represented the profile member according elements given, preserving the identity of each participant. Thus, these are officially the first members of the 2024 Bitgesell Burning Day Hall of Fame and we hope they won’t be the last:
- @MyLuck2021 (Telegram) - 1,554.7 BGL burned
- @Luxurr (Coinmarketcap) - 1,080 BGL burned
- @Sajad (Telegram) - 1,010 BGL burned
- @bryanw07 (Telegram) - 1,000 BGL burned
- @cubototal (Telegram) - 1,000 BGL burned
These burns can be verified at the Bitgesell Null Address, where any BGL sent is automatically burned and added to the red numbers recorded in the Bitgesell Explorer at Bitaps.
In monetary terms, the 5,676 BGL burned on those days equated to an effective burn of $334 USD. If we consider the current price of BGL’s direct competitor, Bitcoin, the Bitgesell community has contributed to burning the equivalent of $382 million!
Between 2009 and 2015, the Bitcoin community identified a total of 2,617.3 BTC sent to various BTC burn addresses, at a time when Bitcoin’s price was far lower than it is today. Check here.
Therefore, the Bitgesell Community in just two days more than doubled the amount of BTC burned in six years. The Bitgesell Community have shown that a dedicated cause can overcome even the most challenging obstacles. Although someone in the future may find this million-dollar burn from the past strange, it’s about sending a small fragment of a time capsule into the future, where $334 USD dollars will primarily help the more enlightened, the clairvoyant and honorable hardworking people.
Burning BGL money for a good cause is the most altruistic and noble act a human being can perform. Even if it's just one Satoshi, the heart of that burner is immense. And every Bitgesell holder who transacts Bitgesell within the Blockchain is already helping the coin and the Community.
Thank you All! Congratulations to the Magnificent Five!
